Warm & Dark is the name of the pairing between Anna from Frozen and Pitch Black from Rise of the Guardians. The pairing can be considered an extension of Rise of the Frozen Guardians and Rise of the Brave Tangled Frozen Dragons. Their romantic pairing is not as popular as many of the RotBTD pairings, although it does have loyal fans.
Relationship Overview[]
Much like BlackGold (and unlike Cold & Dark and BlackIce), the loneliness that Pitch would bond with would be far more internal than external. Much like Jack, Rapunzel and Elsa, Anna has felt a great deal of isolation in her childhood, both being locked away in her castle, confused about her only sister and best friend shutting her out. But whereas Elsa or Jack has allowed this despair and loneliness consume their actions into inaction or rebellion, Anna didn't let it break her and stayed hopeful, but did allow her isolation to germinate, latching on to the smallest bit of romantic attention given to her (like from what she had with Hans), unable to sense Hans might have ulterior motives.
Pitch may find the princess's optimistic and extroverted tendencies annoying, even insulting, and may try to extinguish the light within her with his fear, only to find her a challenge, as Anna tends to face her fears head-on or doesn't recognize fear at all, which would likely frustrate and fascinate him. As she grows older, he may learn to tolerate, even admire, her love of whimsy and wonder, and accompany her in different endeavors. He might even compare her head-on tenacity to his daughter Emily Jane. Much like she would with Jack Frost in Janna, she may see him as some kind of imaginary friend or "fairy godfather", coming to consolidate, lecture and give advice to her as a father would.
Given Pitch's sneaky nature, he may be attracted to Anna's innocently honest personality, so different from his own. He may see in her a kindred spirit with their shared need to be loved, and because of this coupled with her sweet attitude towards everyone she meets, Pitch might wish to protect her from those who would take her loving kindness for granted (as he feels his fellow Guardians did to him), or worse- exploit it and hurt her.
Anna, for her part, wishes to see the good in people and might give Pitch a chance when nobody else will. She might see in him a sad and lonely person like herself and think that he just needs patience and love. However, Anna has a feisty, assertive side and would probably not tolerate any tricks from him or when his teasing goes too far, and call him out on it. She might initially find his self-pitying immature and annoying as much as he might initially find her optimism grating.
Anna is also a romantic, and Pitch could show her the beauty of darkness, given that she does like starry nights, and through her brightness he might not think the light is so terrible.
