|The Screaming Death|
|Title||The Screaming Death|
|Family||Unnamed Whispering Death (Mother), Unnamed Whispering Death Hatchlings (Siblings)|
|Enemies||Alvin the Treacherous, Dagur the Deranged, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (formerly)|
AppearanceEditThe Screaming Death appears to be a heavily mutated, albino Whispering Death. It is white in color, has large red eyes, a longer and a more massive body and larger tail than a normal Whispering Death. It also has three rows of teeth, but they are aligned differently than those of the Whispering Death, set in a chin reminiscent of the Red Death. Judging by the massive size of what is apparently a hatchling, this albino giant is probably one of the biggest dragons of them all. On the side of it's head it possesses gill-like flaps that allow excess flames to release, it's fire much like a machine-gun of sorts.
Like the Whispering Deaths that Hiccup has faced before, the Screaming Death is both an incredibly dangerous and rather sinister dragon to contend with. Where as Screaming Death try to avoid the light, due to an ultra-sensitivity to it, the Screaming Death at first was attracted to light instead, giving Hiccup a weakness to exploit. It appears though that in their second confrontation, it ignored Hiccup's reflective shield, having grown out of this strange habit. This dragon does not appear to possess any actual pathos towards others (with the exception of its mother) as it destroys entire islands, leaving many dragon colonies homeless. It could be possible that, given it's young age, it simply did not know any better.
Hiccup later finds out the reason that the Screaming Death is destroying the islands for searching his mother, and sends air mail back to the Academy. Eventually, the Screaming Death's mother is freed by Snotlout and Hookfang, and she and its siblings fly out to meet with it. The Screaming Death gave one last roar of thanks to Hiccup, then left with its family, showing that although the Screaming Death is merciless, it isn't vengeful.
Powers and AbilitiesEditThe Screaming Death differs from Whispering Death as its' tunnels are so large that they can cause islands to sink. The scales of the beast are extremely tough, as it is not phased by being hit with a Deadly Nadder spines. Having spines of its own, it could easily pin down any oncoming foes with deadly accuracy. Whether these spines are poisonous like the Deadly Nadders are unknown. The Screaming Death is also able to plow right through massive sea stacks with ease, destroying entire islands over the course of a single day. It also seems to have a mutated maturity cycle and seems to become a full grown adult faster. There is only one in the show so its maturity level is not fully known either.
The Screaming Death appears to command it's younger Whispering Death siblings. When it roared after injuring its wing, they came to its aid and carried it off to some remote location where they nursed it back to health. Whether their loyalty is based on family bonds or some type of earned respect is not clear. The Screaming Death gets it name by its incredibly disorienting sonic roar that can affect the flight of other dragons. It is possible that this could be because the Screaming Death is an Alpha-Dragon, but is unable to control other dragons so much as disorient them on account of his age.
It is also relatively intelligent, as it did not fall for the refection off Hiccup's shield a second time.
Like most dragons, the Screaming Death has the ability to breath fire, shooting cannonball-like bursts of flame, flame-exhaust shooting from the gill-like opening in its neck like a machine-gun.
It is confirmed that the Screaming Death is not immune to the effects of dragon root, proving that not all Boulder-class dragons are immune.
Role in the CrossoverEdit
While the show disclosed the Screaming Death as an actual threat, fanfic writers often use the Screaming Death as an antagonist in their stories. Much like with the Red Death, the Screaming Death is often portrayed as a primal force of nature, needing the combined forces of the Big Four and their allies in an effort to drive it away or defeat it.
Pitch would find great value in such a ferocious force of destruction. He would be able to feed on the fear that it instills in other people, and in turn, use the Screaming Death's juvenile mindset and need for it's mother to manipulate it, being able to communicate with it on some level as a spirit over the psychological. If that was the case, it could mean that the Sandman could be able to counteract this grip he has over it.
Despite the savage, primal behavior of the former prince, Mor'du would prefer to stand-clear of the Screaming Death's obvious all-around superiority. However, Mor'du's likelihood to survive an encounter with it would be only slightly higher than most, his iron-like hide able to withstand the Screaming Death's spines.
Because the Red Death died long before the Screaming Death ever hatched, there is no telling what sort of relationship it would have. It could be possible that the Screaming Death would be susceptible to the commands of the Red Death like other dragons, but because there where no visible Whispering Deaths accountable at the nest, it is unknown if the call would actually work or not.
EnemiesEditBerk and terrorizing it's residence. Hiccup was able to outsmart it and leave it injured, escaping to fight another day. Eventually their paths cross again, Hiccup, the other dragon riders and the dragons of the islands that it destroyed driving it off before it tries to destroy anything else.
Hiccup eventually realized from Alvin that the Screaming Death was actually just looking for its mother on Outcast Island. During a harrowing battle against Dagur, the Berserkers and the Outcasts, Fishlegs and Meatlug used Dragon Root to lure the Screaming Death and its siblings to Outcast Islands to help even the odds, while Snotlout and Hookfang freed the caged mother. The Screaming Death, grateful, roars at Hiccup and Toothless for a bit and leaves with its family. Whether or not they will cross paths again is unknown.
As an animal, the Screaming Death would be able to see Jack Frost when some humans cannot. Jack, seeing the natural threat the Screaming Death would invoke, would try to gain its attention to lead it away from its intended target.
As the hotheaded tomboy, Merida would be inclined to fight against it, but sensible enough to know that her bow and arrows wouldn't be very effective against it. On Angus, she would be able to evade and outwit it, but would require the help of her friends and the combined forces of her kingdom to defend her homelands against it.
