Gustav Larson is a member of the Hooligan Tribe of Berk, first honorary member of the Berk Dragon Training Academy and Leader of the A-Team.

Gustav and Fanghook

Gustav and Fanghook three years later.

Although young at heart, he shows a loyalty and faithfulness to his mother, despite the fact that she had traded him for a "Stone of Good Fortune" and still remained close with her. This trait rubs off on his dragon, Fanghook, as he is loyal to Gustav. He admires Snotlout and his ability to train a dragon to the point where he gets his own dragon named Fanghook. Gustav often times mimics Snotlout's personality, although he is easily scared, mostly because he is younger, as shown twice to run away.

Although much too young, he wants to become a Dragon Trainer and often sneaks in to the Training Academy to play. Even though he and his dragon, Fanghook, got off on the wrong start, both dragon and trainer show a close bond with each other.

Three years later, he still acts as their unofficial member. When visiting Dragon's Edge, he immediately declares himself a new resident of the fort, having convinced himself that he is ready despite literally no one else agreeing with him other than Fanghook. He is shown to have become very careless, clumsy and accident-prone, nearly destroying everything he touches. He runs away with the Dragon Eye, convinced that it is some sort of treasure map, nearly getting himself killed in the process. He has also shown to have developed a crush on Astrid, daydreaming about her fawning over him instead of actually listening to what she is telling him, and even blatantly hitting on her.

Many of his bad habits seemed to have been given to him by Snotlout and his "wisdom", many making comparisons between the two. Many have also compared Gustav to Snotlout's book-incarnation, being roughly the same age and betraying Hiccup and the gang to an enemy out of spite (though here it was actually a ruse to fool Dagur).
