DC AU is a popular AU (Alternate Universe) within the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom. In the AU, Hiccup, Merida, Rapunzel and Jack Frost are super-powered men and women within the DC Universe. As it is not canon, ideas for this AU are shown through fanfiction, fanart, and other fan-made works. This can be considered a sub-scenario of the Superhero AU.

About the AU[]

This AU portrays as the four as a group of meta-humans (normal human beings embedded with extraordinary powers) that team up in a world of superheroes and super villains. As the name implies, this AU most commonly places them in Teen Titans, Young Justice and the DC Animated Universe, though this is not required.

The world of DC has been a popular universe for fans to use for crossovers, considering the lack of restrictions the universe has on magic and powers. The Justice League in-particular is a prime place for the Big Four to appear in the universe because of a number of reasons: it has a focus of combining many powers for one ultimate goal, it allows for the use of magic and the idea of dragons, and it adds action and adventure to really spice up a story.

The Batman films that Tim Burton directed could have fans consider this AU an alternative with Tim Burton AU, to reference his take on the Batman/DC universe. Just as the DC/Scooby-Doo crossover stories from WarnerBros having media rights on both franchises, could also have it placed beside Scooby-Doo AU. As well as other AUs that are connected to the other franchises that DC has had an official crossover with, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and RWBY.

Featured Characters[]

The Big Four[]

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]

The DC Heroes Hiccup plays are mostly Robin, Beastboy and Batman (in a Night Fury themed suit, that can be based on his dragon scaled armour [since Hiccup wore it when he made a "Batman-like" entrance in the beginning of the third HTTYD film]). He can also be portrayed as Nightwing (as 15 year old Hiccup can serve as Robin while his 20/21 year old self is Nightwing, since Dick Grayson was a boy during his time as Robin and grew up to be Nightwing), Victor Stone (A.K.A. Cyborg), Flash and even as Red Hood. Hiccup could even be cast as the Aquaman, since they were both raised by a single father, have mothers with protection duties that kept them away from the people they love, bridged two worlds together, gets along with certain types of animals and have helped creatures of the sea. There have also been fans who have on a occasion portrayed Hiccup as a male version of a few known female characters from the DC universe, like Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman and Raven.

Jack Frost[]

The DC Heroes that Jack plays are mostly Robin, Beastboy, and Superman (or as Superboy due to his young appearance); along with the role of a younger, male incarnation of Catwoman and Harley Quinn. Jack has also be cast as Green Lantern (or be made a Blue Lantern), Green Arrow, Batman (with Hiccup as Robin), Nightwing, Robin and even as Joker. Jack's rebirth can also cast him as the former Robin, Jason Todd and current outlaw Red Hood. Jack (as his human self, Jackson Overland) could even cast him as Steve Trevor, since the two characters both have idealist natures and are played by Chris Pine.

Merida DunBroch[]

Merida is commonly portrayed as Raven from Teen Titans. Fans have also cast her as Wonder Woman, for her strong warrior and female spirit, and as Catwoman, while her red hair has fans casting her as Poison Ivy and Batgirl. Merida's archery skills can even have her as Artemis, a female version of Green Arrow or any of the other archer heroes (or villains) in the DC universe. She has also cast as a female version of Beast Boy, from the times that fans have featured Merida as a bear or any other type of animal in a few other AUs.

Rapunzel Corona[]

Rapunzel is commonly portrayed as Starfire from Teen Titans. She has also been portrayed as Supergirl, a female Flash, Harley Quinn, Lois Lane and as Catwoman.

Extra Characters[]

Pitch Black[]

Because of his golden eyes and powers over fear, Pitch is made a member of the Yellow Lanterns; his Nightmares can come from and be created from his Yellow Lantern ring. He could even be portrayed as Scarecrow, as they both specialize in fear and use it as a weapon.

Hiro Hamada[]

Hiro is commonly portrayed as Robin (Dick Grayson or Tim Drake), whenever his brother or Baymax is portrayed as Batman, or when his friends are cast as the other members of the Teen Titans. Hiro's actions in the Big Hero 6: The Series episode, "Hiro the Villain", is similar to Robin's actions and time as Red X in the animated TV series of Teen Titans. Fans also see Hiro as Flash, which could also make him Kid Flash due to his young age.

Tadashi Hamada[]

Tadashi is commonly portrayed as Batman or Nightwing, whenever his brother is portrayed as Robin.

Big Hero 6[]

The team are commonly seen as members of the Teen Titans. With Hiro as Robin, Honey Lemon as Starfire, GoGo as Raven, Wasabi as Cyborg and Fred as Beastboy.

While their young age could even make them members of the Young Justice League. Along with being placed in other DC hero groups.

Wasabi[]

Due to Wasabi's dark skin, the armor that he wears when he does his hero work and the field that he works in at SFIT, fans see him as Cyborg. That is a member of the Teen Titans - with the rest of the Big Hero 6 team - or of the Justice League.

Maui[]

Due to the watery element of Moana and has spent time under the sea - in his fish, shark and whale form -, Maui is cast as Aquaman. With his large magical fish hook transformed into a trident for the role. His animal transformation ability - due to his fish hook - could even have him an older version of Beast Boy. Or have a younger version of Maui for the role. Though he can quite easily be portrayed his original self, since the DC Universe is also populated by gods of myth.

Because of the way Maui's voice actor, Dwayne Johnson played two DC characters for separate films of the DC universe, it had inspired fans to portray Maui as Black Adam and to feature him with the DC League of the Super Pets version of Krypto the Superdog. By having Krypto as Maui's dog counterpart or friend in DC crossovers.

Moana Waialiki[]

Being a "princess" that lives on an island, up until she hears about a great danger and went to stop it, as well as having a connection with a god, Moana can easily be cast as Wonder Woman. Some scenes and traits from the 2017 live-action film of the DC heroine, matches a few of the ones that were used in the 2016 Disney film of the young wayfinder. While her connection to the ocean can have her as Mera, a female version of Aquaman, or any other water related DC Hero and Heroine; as well as villains. Fans have also portrayed Moana as Harley Quinn.

Felonius Gru[]

The shape of Gru's nose and had spent time as a villain can easily cast him as the Penguin.

Dash Parr[]

Due to Dash's superspeed powers and being a bit of a "showoff", he is seen as a younger version of Flash; which could also make him Kid Flash. There have also been fans that have cast Dash as Robin.

Queen Elsa[]

Elsa has been portrayed as countless DC Heroes and Villains in the AU. But she is mostly seen as Raven (with Anna as Starfire), Supergirl (while Anna is Batgirl), Wonder Woman and even as Harley Quinn. Elsa's ice powers and one of Frozen's earlier layouts having Elsa as the antagonist, as fans commonly use both her original design and role in dark crossovers, could have her as Killer Frost. While her "facing the ocean" scene in the teaser trailer of Frozen 2 has fans casing Elsa as Mera, for fun.

Princess Anna[]

Anna has been portrayed as countless DC Heroes and Villains in the AU. But she is mostly seen as Starfire (with Elsa as Raven), Batgirl (while Elsa is Supergirl), Wonder Woman, Supergirl and even as Harley Quinn.

Prince Hans[]

Fans have commonly given Hans the role of Joker, whenever Anna is Batgirl or Harley Quinn. Hans can even be placed as Two-Face, for similarities in personality and backstory.

Astrid Hofferson[]

For the Hiccstrid pairing, fans have placed Astrid as Starfire with Hiccup as Robin. While her blond hair and how she handles her main weapon of choice, fans see her as Harley Quinn. There have also been fans that have her as Catwoman.

Mary Katherine[]

Due to the shade of her hair color, being a bright girl and is willing to help those in need, M.K. can be placed as Batgirl (Barbara Gordan).

Bolt[]

Bolt's white coat and being a "superdog" in the world of the TV show that he unknowingly stared in, can easily portray him as Krypto, A.K.A. Superdog. As some of Bolt's "superpowers" are similar to Krypto's. In 2022 Krypto was given a few Bolt like traits, like being over protective of his owner and teaming up with other animals when they got separated, along with learning how to be a real dog from one of their new friends. Making Bolt even more perfect for the role of Superdog.

Disgust[]

Due to her green skin and the flower prints on her dress, fans see her as Poison Ivy.

Sadness[]

Due to the blue color of Sadness's skin, fans have her as a female version of Mr. Freeze.

Fear[]

The emotion that he stands for could have Fear as Scarecrow.

Heathcliff[]

Being a butler that knows and helps his master with both his normal and superhero life, can easily portray him as Alfred.

Fred's Father[]

Being a wealthy man that is a superhero, through the gear he uses as he doesn't have any actual superpowers, and has a manor and a butler, could have fans portraying a younger version of Mr. Frederickson as Batman. Mainly for fun, and possibly for the fact that Batman/Bruce Wayne was one of the inspirations that were used to create his character.

The Once-ler[]

Because fans see the Once-ler's Greed-ler side as a Hyde-like character and use that part of him in dark crossovers, he can be portrayed as Two-Face. His Greed-ler could also have him be featured as a Orange Lantern.

Queen Tara[]

Tara's nature powers and the bond that she has with the forest could have fans portray (an antagonist version of) her as Poison Ivy.

Mr. Incredible[]

Fans have cast Mr. Incredible as Batman, which might be due to those that have cast Dash as Robin and to possibly give them a reason to feature the Incredimobile as the Batmobile. He can also be portrayed as Superman, due to being a hero of the same calibre and having a similar powerset as the Golden Age version.

Stalyan[]

Being a female thief in dark attire, could have Stalyan cast as Catwoman.

Shank[]

Fans have portrayed Shank as Wonder Woman, as both characters were played by Gal Gadot.

Fans have portrayed Ralph as Batman.

Vanellope von Schweetz[]

Vanellope's need for speed, for when she is racing, has fan portraying her as a young, female version of Flash or Kid Flash.

Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun[]

Possibly due to the style of her armor, fans have portrayed Sergeant Calhoun as a female Cyborg, for fun.

Fix-It Felix, Jr.[]

Fans have portrayed Felix as Aquaman, for fun.

Wilbur Robinson[]

Because Wilbur has caused problems and small "blips" in timelines during his joyriding in the video game prequel of Meet the Robinsons, and makes sure that he fixes his "time altering" mistakes when he travels back to save the future, he can easily be placed as a Legend from DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Wilbur's young age and the lightning bolt logo on both his shirt and on the cap he had Lewis wear, which has fans giving him thunder/lighting/electricity-like powers in superhero and elemental related crossovers (due to those who see the lightning bolt logo as Wilbur's personal mark), could have him as Shazam.

Flynn Rider[]

Growing up as an orphan, was touched by magic, as well as having a few other kinds of magical encounters, and can be a bit childish at times, can possibly cast Flynn as Shazam; since both characters are played by Zachary Levi. By that logic, the child version of Flynn can be cast as Billy Batson.

Sanderson Mansnoozie[]

Because of his origin and the nature of his powers, Sandy can easily be cast as the Dream of the Endless, or perhaps his successor Sandman (Daniel Hall), of the DC/Vertigo Universe.

Vodniks[]

Because of their fish-like appearance and being antagonistic, they can easily be cast as the Trench.

Megan Cruz[]

Being the daughter of a police chief and is friends with the masked heroes of her home city, which allowed her to get a close up with one of San Fransokyo's supervillains, Megan can easily be portrayed as Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl/Oracle).

Chief Cruz[]

Chief Cruz can easily be cast as Commissioner Gordon, especially if his daughter is portrayed as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.

Cassandra[]

Because Rapunzel is commonly seen as Starfire and the fact that Cassandra is the daughter of a villain, her friendship with Rapunzel could have Cass as Raven. While swords being seen as Cassandra's main weapon of choice and the black color of her hair could have her as Katana.

Barbara Keynes[]

Barbara's Knightowl persona and a few other things about her share some similarities to Batman and his allies. With both being none-superpowered heroes being brutish, have a sidekick who's hero title is a type of bird and later started to go by a different bird related title, Barbara is also the civilian name of the first Batgirl, and Barbara Keynes's female gender might also be a nod to Batwoman. Who is a proud lesbian and Barbara has been hinted to be in a relationship with Olympia Hill.

Jessica Keynes[]

Jess's Sparrow persona and the fact that she is Knightowl's sidekick bear some similarities to Robin, while her new persona as Eagle might be a nod to Nightwing.

Olympia Hill[]

The nature of Majestia's superpowers, wears glasses to hide her superhero identity and the color scheme of her suit makes her similar to Superman and Supergirl.

Fei Wu[]

Fei's new animal transformation ability can easily have her as either Vixon or a female Beast Boy, since each one of her eight animal forms are of the same red and yellow/gold color scheme, as the Renlings', just has all of Beast Boy's animal forms are green as his skin.

Gunmar[]

Gunmar, being a major antagonist sporting large horns protruding from his head, a large corporal build and proficiency with an axe, he can easily be cast as Steppenwolf.

Morgana[]

With DC being no stranger to the Arthurian folklore and other legendry myths, Morgana can either be portrayed as herself or her DC counterpart (in the same way that Gothel is cast as herself or the original fairy tale character she is based on in the Rapunzel AU).

Sabrina Raincomprix[]

Sabrina's red colored hair, is the daughter of a police officer and was given the chance to be an animal themed heroin in the fourth season of Miraculous Ladybug, she can easily be portrayed as Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl [and later Oracle]). Since a few known versions of Barbara have her wearing glasses like Sabrina.

Douxie Casperan[]

Due to the way that DC has presented itself to be no stranger to legendry myths, like the Arthurian folklore, or heroes who use their magical powers and knowledge to help others and to keep the world safe, Douxie and his fellow Tales of Arcadia witches and wizards can easily be featured in the DC universe. This can also have Douxie being portrayed as one of known DC heroes, or villains, who are users of wizard-like magic. Like Doctor Fate and John Constantine. Douxie's connections to Merlin and Camelot could even have him be acquainted with Jason Blood or any other DC characters that have their own connections to the old Arthurian wizard or the kingdom he was from.

Isabela Madrigal[]

The nature of Isabela's plant related powers can easily have (an antagonist version of) her as Poison Ivy.

Heather[]

Heather being good with a weapon, her black hair and takes revenge for the her family's death can easily cast as Katana.

E. Aster Bunnymund[]

Being the Guardian of Hope and how the original Guardians of Childhood book series had Bunnymund originating from space before coming to Earth, Bunny can easily be placed as a Blue Lantern. With them being the lanterns of hope and how one of its chosen lanterns is a humanoid elephant, making the idea of a humanoid rabbit lantern not at all strange. Even though Bunny's main weapon of choice might get people to feature him as Caption Boomerang, for a laugh.
