Anastasia AU is an AU in the fandom where the Big Four play roles in 20th Century Fox's Anastasia.

About this AU[]

Spawning from fanart, this AU places the Big Four, and other such characters in the fandom, as characters from Anastasia.

Anastasia AU is most commonly used for the Jackunzel or Hijack pairing. Because the Assassin's Creed series has its own version of Anastasia, some fans like to consider this AU an alternative to Assassin's Creed AU.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]

Hiccup is more commonly portrayed as a male version of Anastasia, the youngest son/daughter and one of two surviving members of the Imperial family, with Toothless as the dog, Pooka. Hiccup is also portrayed as Dimitri for the Mericcup and Hiccanna pairings.

Jack Frost[]

Jack is commonly portrayed as Dimitri, a young con man and former servant of Tsar Nicholas II, who helped the two surviving Imperials escape. While Jack forgetting his past and former life with his family, before remembering it again can also cast him as a male Anastasia. After the original Guardians of Childhood book series began to have Jack as the transformed Nightlight, some fans got the idea to use Nightlight as young Anastasia while Jack Frost serves as the grown up Anya.

Merida DunBroch[]

In the Mericcup and Jarida pairings, Merida is portrayed as Anastasia, the youngest daughter of the Imperial family as Hiccup or Jack, the young con man and former servant who helped the princess and her mother/grandmother escape. Her necklace can serve as Anastasia's necklace (and key to the Music-Box), with the words "Together in DunBroch" on the back.

Rapunzel Corona[]

Rapunzel is cast as the lost princess Anastasia, as the two share a similar story and come from royal families that are looking for their lost children. Her tiara can serve as the crown that Marie had given to Anastasia, as both girls wore them when they took up their royal roles.

Pitch Black[]

Pitch is commonly portrayed as the dangerous, power-mad sorcerer Rasputin, the man who cast a curse that would claim the lives of all but two members of the Imperial family: Anastasia and Marie.

Nicholas St. North[]

As Jack plays Dimitri, North is portrayed as his friend and former nobleman who helps Anastasia find her inner princess, Vladimir/Vlad, sometimes with Toothiana as Marie's cousin, Sophie.

Toothiana[]

Tooth is cast between Marie's cousin, Sophie for the ChristmasCookie pairing, and Anastasia for the Frostbite pairing. As both roles are of people that are royals, the power of memory being part of the story and with Tooth being the queen of her fairies.

Queen Arianna of Corona[]

Much like how Dowager Empress Marie offered money to whoever brings her granddaughter safely back to her, Arianna and her husband send thousands of lanterns into the night sky, so their daughter could find her way home. This role is commonly given to her for when Rapunzel is cast as Anastasia, while Frederic is seen as the Tsar.

Toothless[]

Toothless is commonly portrayed as Anya/Anastasia's dog, Pooka. As a small black dog or a miniature Night Fury.

Queen Elsa[]

Elsa is cast as Anastasia, while her father plays the Tsar and her sister as a younger Marie, as she looks for her sister. She has also been cast as Marie when the role of Anastasia is given to Anna. The round jewellery box, that Elsa used with the candlestick when she was practicing for her coronation, can be used as the small music box that was given to young Anastasia by her grandmother.

Princess Anna[]

Anna is seen as Anastasia, when Kristoff, Hiccup or Hans is Dimitri. She can also be a younger version of Marie, as she looks for her missing and still believes to be alive sister.

Kristoff Bjorgman[]

Since Kristoff is a commoner that fell in love with a royal and traveled with her for a bit, he can easily be given the role of Dimitri. When Anna is Anastasia.

Queen Elinor[]

Elinor is commonly portrayed as Dowager Empress Marie, even when the part of her granddaughter is sometimes played by Hiccup or Elsa than just Merida. She could also be portrayed as Tsarina Alexandra, for when King Fergus is cast as Tsar Nicholas II.

Heather[]

Since Heather carries around an item that connects to her past and her birth family, and longs to find and reunite with them, she can be cast as Anastasia.

Flynn Rider[]

Because of his poor and cunning past, and had carried a royal item that helped someone realize who she is, Flynn is seen as Dimitri with Rapunzel as Anastasia. While Flynn's childhood friend (from the Tangled TV series), Lance Strongbow serves as Vladimir. After Eugene was revealed to be the lost prince of the Dark Kingdom, some began to cast him as a male Anastasia for fun.

Prince Hans[]

Fans have cast Hans as Dimitri, when Anna or Elsa is Anastasia. He has also been cast as Gleb Vaganov, a strong supporter of the Russian revolution who hunts down the orphan Anya from Russia to the French city of Paris, to see if she really is the last remaining Romanov, from the Broadway musical that is based on the 1997 film (as well as the show being its own non-magical fantasy version of the film).

Felicie[]

Being a young orphan girl with a music box who journeyed to the city of Paris with a purpose, can easily cast Felicie as Anastasia. While Felicie being a young Ballerina in-training could possibly have her as one of the young dancers in the Russian Ballet that was featured in the animated film and the stage musical of it.

Pascal[]

Since Rapunzel is commonly portrayed as Anastasia, a dog version of Pascal could possible be cast as Pooka.

Bolt[]

Since Bolt is a dog who travelled across the country to order to reunite with someone important to him, fans can easily cast him as Anya's dog Pooka.

Queen Iduna of Arendelle[]

Since Elsa and Anna are sometimes cast as Anastasia, fans could have Iduna as Dowager Empress Marie. She could also be cast as Tsarina Alexandra, for when King Agnarr is cast as Tsar Nicholas II and from her being Elsa and Annas' mother.

Princess Elena[]

Elena being a lost princess who has had her parents taken from her before she gets reunited with her beloved grandmother years later, can easily portray her as Anastasia.

Shuriki[]

Shuriki being a wicked sorceress who tried to wide out a whole royal family while a young princess escaped her grasps, and makes it her mission to finish her off after she learns about Elena's return, can easily portray Shuriki as a female version of Rasputin.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng[]

For the Adrienette pairing, Marinette is cast as Anastasia. There have also been times when fans have her as a female Dimitri.

Adrien Agreste[]

For the Adrienette pairing, Adrien is cast as Dimitri. There have also been times when fans have him as a male Anastasia.

Lance Strongbow[]

Lance can be cast as Vladimir/Vlad, since Flynn and Rapunzel are often portrayed as Dimitri and Anastasia.

Valka[]

Since Valka was separated from her family before reuniting him her grown up son years later, who is sometimes portrayed as a male Anastasia, she can be cast as Dowager Empress Marie. She could also be cast as Tsarina Alexandra, for when Stoick is cast as Tsar Nicolas II.

A human of Mr. Peabody has been cast as Dimitri, for the Peanna pairing. While him being a dog could have Peabody as Pooka.

Hiro has been cast as Dimitri for the Hirogo and Hiroraline pairings.

Since Victor is friends with an orphan girl who is the owner of a music box he helps her to look after, fans could have him as Dimitri.

Gobber the Belch[]

Gobber could be cast as Vladimir/Vlad when Hiccup is cast as Dimitri, since both Gobber and Vlad are older than Hiccup and Dimitri and do what they can to help their young friends.

Astrid Hofferson[]

The rare occasion when Hiccup is seen as Dimitri could possibly portray Astrid as Anya/Anastasia. Since they are both strong girls who go on journeys with their animal friends and there was a moment when Astrid believed that she had lost her family after she learned that her house was burned down during an attack on Berk. There also been times when Astrid is cast as a female version of Dimitri.
